“We need some
classic radio !”
Lake Macquarie FM is born
Lake Macquarie FM is the result of a dream of Bruce Carty to work in his own radio station. Bruce applied for, and received, a narrowcast licence to broadcast in 1989.
In 1998 Radio Yesteryear INC was born. Though it held a temporary licence, Radio Yesteryear INC broadcast for almost 18 years from several studios.
Radio Yesteryear obtained a permanent licence in 2010. The licence conditions required the station to move to a location within its broadcast area. Radio Yesteryear moved from its Mount Penang studio to its current home at the Halekulani Bowling Club in 2011.The station has enjoyed a long and mutually gratifying association with The Hali.
In October 2013 the station was crippled by bush fires. The devastating fires destroyed the station’s aerial and transmission equipment. As a result of hard work by members, generous financial contributions and the help of Wyong Council the station was back on air within 4 weeks!
In 2013,Radio Yesteryear changed its name and Radio Yesteryear Inc. became Lake Macquarie FM Inc.
